Fremont Clerk Record Services

The Clerk and Recorder's core record functions are different from court clerk functions. Recording Division records include real estate documents, deeds, military records, and other recorded public documents dating back to 1860. The office also handles marriage and civil union licensing and copies, elections, motor vehicle services, county liquor licensing, and records for the Board of County Commissioners. These are county administrative records, not state court case files.

Search Fremont Recorded Documents

The county's recorded document route uses the Tyler self-service public records portal and in-office search access. The research states there is no charge to search public records online or in office. Images are not available online until purchased. For subdivisions, deposited surveys, or maps, users should select the maps, plats, or surveys search option. For other recorded records, the county directs users to the All Records Search route.

Certified copies are treated differently from ordinary online image purchases. The Recording Division says certified copies are not electronically transmitted, and the office needs verbal confirmation plus mailing-address verification before mailing. DD-214 military discharge papers are highly confidential. A DD-214 request requires a written form and picture ID, and copies are distributed only to the veteran or next of kin unless an authorized professional has signed authorization.

  1. Use the county's public search portal or search in office at the Recording Division.
  2. Select maps, plats, or surveys for those record types, or All Records Search for other records.
  3. Review the index and purchase images when needed.
  4. Contact the Recording Division before ordering certified copies by mail.
  5. Use the special written process and picture ID for DD-214 copies.

Fremont County Clerk Fees

The Clerk and Recorder research includes a detailed recording and copy fee schedule. These fees apply to recording and county records, not to District Court pleadings or court-certified copies. The most notable update is the recording fee for most documents effective July 1, 2025. Online image purchases and physical copies follow separate rates, and postage may apply to mailed physical copies.

Fremont Marriage Clerk Records

Marriage and civil union licensing is a County Clerk and Recorder function. Applicants complete the marriage or civil union license application online through the Clerk's Tyler portal. Applications are processed and verified Monday through Thursday between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. A clerk then contacts applicants to verify information and schedule an appointment to come in, sign, and pay. Both applicants generally need to be present with valid identification unless a special packet applies.

The marriage license fee in the research is $30. The license is valid upon issuance and must be used within 35 days in Colorado. The completed license must be returned after the ceremony to Fremont County Clerk and Recorder, 615 Macon Avenue Room LL6, Cañon City, Colorado 81212. Late return can bring a $20 fee plus possible additional daily fees up to the stated maximum. Marriage and civil union copies and certified copies can be requested through the public search and copy route.

Fremont CORA Requests

The Clerk and Recorder forms page offers both online and PDF CORA request routes for county administrative records. A requester supplies contact information, a description of the records sought, and added details that help locate the record. The research also notes a strong sensitive-information warning. Requesters should not send dates of birth, death and marriage, Social Security numbers, driver license numbers, financial account numbers, medical information, or passport numbers through those form fields unless the office gives a safer channel.

CORA applies to many county administrative records, but it is not the default tool for court case documents. Court records are governed by judicial access rules, Chief Justice Directives, court-specific statutes, and the Colorado Judicial Branch request process. Criminal justice records can also fall under CCJRA. If the record is a court pleading, order, divorce decree, probate filing, criminal disposition, or traffic case document, the request should go to Fremont Combined Court rather than the County Clerk and Recorder.

Original Fremont Clerk Records

The county offers a Request to Conduct Research for original public records stored on site. This is a specialized access channel. Staff must be present because of the location and condition of records. The office schedules research in half-day increments or as practical. The requester must provide clean gloves, such as nitrile, vinyl, or lint-free cotton. That detail is unusually specific and should be preserved because it affects a real visit.

Original-record research is best suited to historical recorded materials or other county records that are not fully served through the online public portal. It should not be treated as a faster way to obtain a court file. For court case copies, use the Judicial Branch record/document request form or contact Fremont Combined Court. For recorded documents, use the Tyler portal, in-office search, copy purchase, certified-copy confirmation, or scheduled original-record research when the Clerk and Recorder requires it.

County Clerk Updates

Recent local notices matter because the Clerk and Recorder works on a Monday through Thursday schedule and occasionally posts training closures. The research captured a July 2026 notice that Recording and Motor Vehicle were closing at 2:30 p.m. and Elections at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 for training. The recording fee update effective July 1, 2025 is also important because most documents are listed at $43 per document, all pages included.

The Clerk and Recorder's services connect to court records only at certain points. Marriage records may support family or probate questions, but divorce decrees stay with District Court. Recorded probate deeds may support an estate transfer, but the probate order stays in court. County records may support a civil dispute, but the pleadings and judgment stay with the judicial clerk. Keeping the record owner straight saves time and avoids wrong-office requests.
